STEP BY STEP GUIDES - FOR COLLECTOR’S BY COLLECTORS

The team at Doctor Who Action Figures Online are pleased to present with you a database of 'Step By Step' guides put together for you by collectors of the Doctor Who action figure range.

In this particular guide, fellow collector Paul W takes us through the process of removing figures from blister packaging.

Before attempting this tutorial, we recommend that you take the time to read and fully understand each instruction. No responsibility can be taken for loss or damages as a result of following this tutorial.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

BY PAUL W

Carded or uncarded, that is the question; whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer and keep one's figures upon the card, or to rip 'em out of their packaging and see what cool articulation features they have!.

See, even Shakespeare didn't know the answer - the Doctor should know that!

It's a tricky one and for those purists that want mint carded C9 figures, they must leave them on the card untouched by human hand for all eternity and as such never know the joy of handling the sculpted figure. (unless they are very rich and buy two of each!)

However, for those who are not C9 fanatics there is an alternative, you can keep the figure on the card and enjoy that wonderful packaging/card design displaying them in their bubble, on the shelf or on a peg... BUT... you can still remove the action figure from the bubble.

"What magic or witchcraft is this of which you speak? " I hear you say?!

Well, it really is very simple indeed , you can simply cut a flap/ door in the plastic bubble allowing you to slide the figure tray and it's contents (the action figure!) out of the outer bubble packing without destroying the packaging buy tearing off the bubble.

Here is how to do it!...

GETTING READY

You can do this with most carded action figures. However, the key thing to do is identify the optimum position to create the flap, allowing you to slide out the tray without it catching on any part of the outer bubble - this will usually be the widest elevation of the packaging.. So for example you wouldn't chose the top of the bubble of a Doctor Who figure as the wider pointy part of the tray where the Logo is displayed would not slide out.

STEP 1

Select your figure and work out where you'll cut the flap

STEP 2

Using the sharpest knife you can (I usually use a surgical scalpel blade - If you are underage you may need adult supervision - don't blame me for missing body parts or bloodstained action figures !) You will need to cut down the edge of the plastic bubble.

Slip the point of the blade through the plastic of the outer bubble only and then slice down through the plastic of the outer bubble along the first seam of the flap.

STEP 3

When you get to the bottom of the first seam remove the knife, change the cutting angle so that the side of the blade is parallel to the backing card and cut the outer bubble just above the heat-sealed flange that is glues to the backing card.

STEP 4

There is usually a gap in the outer bubble at the very bottom of Doctor Who cards, when you reach it , remove the knife and repeat stage 3 on the opposite side.

STEP 5

Once you have reached the end of the seam on the backing card, again remove the scalpel, and start to cut down the final seam that will form the side of the flap - making sure that you are only cutting the outer bubble, not the figure tray inside.

STEP 6

You should now be able to lift the flap of the outer bubble up revealing the action figure tray inside.

STEP 7

You should now be able to slide out the action figure tray and it's contents

STEP 8

CAUTION: On the majority of Dr Who Figures the part of the Inner Action Figure tray which lays below the name of the figure, will catch on the recessed part of the outer bubble - if you reach in between the outer bubble with your fingers and press the figure tray down as you pull it out it should come free without damaging either the bubble , tray or the backing card.

STEP 9

Release that figure !

STEP 10

So long as you are careful when replacing or removing the inner plastic figure tray into it's bubble, you should be able to remove the action figure as many times as you like.

See, Sarah Jane is free, K9 is sealed in the bubble and unless you inspect the carded figure closely you wouldn't know it had been opened!

Enjoy your action figures!
