DOCTOR WHO CLASSIC SERIES WAVE 2 ANNOUNCED

Building upon the successful range of 5” Doctor Who Classic Series action figures initially launched back in August 2008, followed by the exclusive sets offered by Forbidden Planet & Underground Toys throughout 2009... Character Options are pleased to announce the launch of their second wave of Classic Series action figures.

Recreate scenes from the Classic Series with six brand new characters, modelled accurately on famous villains from past episodes:

THE MASTER - the renegade Time Lord, and arch-enemy of the Doctor, as he appeared in ‘The Deadly Assassin’ in 1976. He stands posed and ready to shoot all that defy him.

ICE WARRIOR - one of the Doctor’s oldest enemies, first battling against the Second Doctor back in the 1967 story ‘The Ice Warriors’.

CYBERMAN - as seen in the 1982 episode ‘Earth Shock’, the Cyberman is armed, and posed ready to attack.

THE MORBIUS CREATURE - the brain of another renegade Time Lord resurrected into a ghoulish character that fought the Fourth Doctor, in ‘The Brain of Morbius’ from 1976.

VOC ROBOT - from the classic 1977 story ‘Robots of Death’ set on a distant planet where humans mine for precious metals using the Robots for labour. This Voc Robotıs eyes glow red under a light.

MUMMY WITH CANOPIC JAR - coming complete with urn accessories, the Mummy Robot was first seen in 1975’s ‘Pyramid of Mars’, with the Fourth Doctor.

Wave 2 is due to hit all good toy stores early next year, however stick with us for all the latest regarding these brand new releases.

TESCO DOCTOR WHO EXCLUSIVES - FULL DETAILS!

So, the big question on everyone's lips... Why has DWAFO not reported on the Tesco Exclusive Doctor Who Sets? Well let us explain... Since September 2009, Doctor Who Action Figures Online has been aware of four brand new exclusive Doctor Who action figure sets manufactured by Character Options.

Containing three five inch figures per pack based on either Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 or the Cybermen, these sets were due to go on sale in Tesco stores across the United Kingdom for the special price of £10 (RRP £20). Unfortunately due a number of unknown reasons, all four figure packs were soon cleared from the shelves of stores who had received their stock due to an emergency product withdrawal.

While DWAFO was reluctant to publicise the arrival of these action figure sets until the all clear was given, we have received a few e-mails from collectors who are confused regarding the availability of these packs. Due to this confusion, we have decided published this update for you all to track the current status of these exclusive sets...

  • The Doctor Who action figure sets are still making their way on to the shelves of stores across the country.
  • A number of collectors have reported that these sets are able to purchase in stores and on their Tesco Direct website without no problems, while the majority of collectors have been refused sale by Tesco staff due to the “Emergency Product Withdrawal” notice popping up at the tills.

We advise any collectors who wish to purchase either the Series 1 set containing; The Ninth Doctor, Sycorax Warrior and Jabe, the Series 2 set containing; Cyber Controller, Triangulation Doctor and Hoix, the Series 3 set containing; Captain Jack Harkness, Time Lord and Hal Korwin or the Cyberman set containing; The Tenth Planet, Tomb and Invasion Cybermen to contact their local store to confirm availability.

We will of course keep you updated with any future updates.

 NEW DOCTOR WHO LOGO REVEALED!

The official Doctor Who website this morning offered an exclusive first look at the new Doctor Who logo, which will accompany Matt Smith's on-screen debut as The Doctor in spring 2010.

Accompanying the logo at bbc.co.uk/doctorwho is an animated insignia of the show's initials, which will be used as branding for the new series in conjunction with the logo.

Steven Moffat, the new Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said: "A new logo. The 11th logo for the 11th Doctor – those grand old words, Doctor Who, suddenly looking newer than ever.

"And, look at that, something really new – an insignia! DW in TARDIS form! Simple and beautiful, and most important of all, a completely irresistible doodle.

"I apologise to school notebooks everywhere, because in 2010 that's what they're going to be wearing."

The final three episodes featuring David Tennant will be broadcast later this year on BBC One, with the existing logo on-screen with the new series and new logo launching in Spring 2010.

NEW DOCTOR WHO LOGO REVEALED TOMORROW!

Tomorrow at 8am, the BBC will unveil it’s brand new logo for the Doctor Who series, set to be screened in 2010 staring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as companion Amy Pond.

Not only will this brand new logo feature in the opening tittles of the 2010 series, it will become a familiar sight to us all on promotional material, televised trailers and merchandise lines, including Character Options Doctor Who action figures.

Doctor Who has engaged and amazed a global audience for over forty years, constantly raising the bar and regenerating to deliver new and compelling adventures.

It's all change again in 2010 with Matt Smith playing the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan onboard as companion Amy Pond and a brilliant, brand new logo!

On one level, the logo is the iconic image that represents Doctor Who. But it's much more than that - it becomes an icon that is recognised from Cardiff to California, an emblem of excitement, humour, scary monsters, brave companions and the Doctor! And so the new logo must be stylish, fresh, distinctive and bold.

In the latest Issue of Doctor Who Magazine (DWM 408) released in all good news agents from tomorrow, the results are in and reveal that the Doctor Who action figure range are the third most popular line in the license, beaten only by DVDs and Doctor Who Magazine.

THE RESULTS

Number One: Doctor Who DVDs - 20.0%
Number Two: Doctor Who Magazine - 17.3%
Number Three: Doctor Who Action Figures - 13.3&
Doctor Who: The Writer’s Tale - 10.7%
Doctor Who: The Complete Fourth Series - 6.7%
Others - 32.00%

With a wide range of merchandise to be found on the high street, for Doctor Who action figures to be ranked third over any other Doctor Who toy lines and other similar products shows tribute to the quality of Character’s Doctor Who range.

With the Eleventh Doctor ready to take over next year, we are sure that the action figure range will continue to perform strong entering 2010 and beyond.

BAD WOLF REVEALED ON DWAFO’S SECOND BIRTHDAY - 24.04.09!

In March 2009, the Doctor Who Action Figures Online team decided to have a little fun by adding two words across the site... Bad Wolf!

Often referenced since Series 1, Bad Wolf appears though out time and space warning the Doctor of things to come. Sometimes this means change and since we were working on our new look and we were approaching our second Birthday, our Bad Wolf fun begun!

Over the past few weeks the appearance of Bad Wold has sparked conversation towards it’s meaning!
It has appeared on every page of the site, within news articles, on our Facebook page and within our newsletters, however the mystery has remained unsolved... until now!

As you can see we have regenerated the site with a brand new look, with easier navigation and a crispy design.

All our usual information is online, however over the next few weeks we will be adding even more to the site; including a brand new packaging guide, tutorial and two brand new features!

Please bear with us over the next 24 hour while we iron out any problems the site may have, however we hope that you like our brand new look and look forward to receiving your comments!

COMMENTS

Here are some of the comments we have received from you regarding the Vespiform Collect & Build wave...

“When I heard that character options were releasing a Vespiform I was over the moon. I was then very annoyed to discover that in order for me to get the whole Vespiform I would have to spend money on figures that I already have!“

“A Vespaform with new released figures or a Deluxe Vespiform would of been far better “

“I'm a bit annoyed about the Vespiform figure to be honest, although it looks amazing. The reason being that the figures are the previously released ones. That means for serious collectors like me, we'll want to buy 2 sets if we want to build the figure, and therefore have lots of loose figues that we already have.".

“As a collector of the series so far (I have every figure, including several duplicates of the doctor and others thanks to box-sets etc) i am very angry at this latest collect and build wave”

“I am very annoyed about the build a figure vespiform. You would think the people who had already bought the figures would be rewarded but instead, they reward those who HAVEN'T!”

“I think its a great idea but I think its bad of them to do this now when most collectors have already bought these figures”.
