Production Errors

All The Strange, Strange Creatures!

With millions of Doctor Who action figures produced each year, sometimes a figure which is that is a little bit different from the rest, can slip through the normal quality checks. While these errors are few and far between, figures have been known to have two left feet, the incorrect name cards or unpainted parts.

Below, with the help of those who have sent in their pictures so far, we take a look at some of these production errors which have made it in to stores.

Series 2 | Clockwork Man 5 Inch Range Year Of Issue 2007 Error Type Wrong Character Card Error Details Found by Who North America, this Clockwork Man figure has a bad case of mistaken identity with an incorrectly inserted character card featuring the Series 1 character, Moxx of Balhoon. Retailer Who North America Location North America Website http://whona.com               Series 2 | Mickey Smith 5 Inch Range Year Of Issue 2007 Error Type Misprint/Wrong Character Card Error Details This particular Mickey Smith figure from Series 2 has been packaged with a ‘The Doctor In Spacesuit’ character card. To add to the errors, this wrongly inserted character card has even been misprinted. Found in the stocks of US retailer, Who North America. Retailer Who North America Location North America Website http://whona.com               Series 2 | Ood 5 Inch Range Year Of Issue 2007 Error Type Wrong Character Card Error Details Over the years, Who North America accumulated a handful of error card and figures with defects. As we can see from this picture, this particular Ood figure has been packaged with a Mickey Smith character card. Retailer Who North America Location North America Website http://whona.com               Series 2 | Werewolf 5 Inch Range Year Of Issue 2007 Error Type Unpainted Parts Error Details Still sealed in it’s original packaging, the head of this five inch Werewolf remains unpainted, leaving the undercoat exposed. The following figures are known to have production errors, produced on a wider scale...

Series X | Incorrect Colour | Cyber Controller

Back in 2006, Character Options released a Cyber Controller figure as a Toys R Us exclusive, however the first batch of figures released in stores featured incorrectly coloured eyes.

Only a limited amount of White/Yellow eyed Cyber Controllers were released, before the figure was corrected in later batches to feature the blue dotted eyes.

This error was also repeated on the 12 inch range.

Series 1 | Incorrect Series | Captain Jack Harkness

A newly molded Captain Jack Harkness was released in June 2008 as part of the Series 1 (Series 1-2-3) assortment, however the character is incorrectly dressed to feature in this range. Captain Jack was never seen in this uniform until Torchwood - Series 1 and Doctor Who - Series 3.

Capatin Jack was later re-released in January 2009 as park of the Series 3 (Series 1-2-3 Gelth) assortment with Doctor’s Hand accessory.

Series 2 | Incorrect Colour | Clockwork Man (Black)

The Clockwork Man produced by Character Options was originally released with a black jacket, however it was soon withdrawn due to an error in the figures costume colour.

Reference pictures given to Character Options gave the impression that the character’s costume was black, however the real colour is a dark blue when seen by the naked eye. There was never a black clockwork man in the Series 2 episode, ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’

Series 3 | Incorrect Name Card | Branigan (Brannigan)

The first batch of Series 3 Brannigans contained a spelling mistake on the packaged name card, spelling the charcter’s name with one ‘N’s instead with two!

The error was corrected on all future waves.

Series 4 | Incorrect Series | Time Lord

The Gallifrey Time Lord made a surprise appearance in the Series 4 Wave 3 assortment of figures even though the character has only appeared in Series 3.

Why the Time Lord features in Character Options Series 4 assortment is unknown!

Gift Sets | Missing Item | Stolen Earth Gift Set

The first batch of Stolen Earth Gift Sets did not contain a Sonic Screwdriver, even though the pack was completely sealed! This error was soon resolved and customers wishing to obtain their missing Sonic Screwdriver could by contacting Character Options Customer Services.
