HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Doctor Who Action Figures Online was first established in April 2007 after seeing the high demand for a reference guide looking for information covering the very first waves back in 2006/2007. At the time, no other website had a simple checklist for collectors to refer to, so in order to cater for those who wished to keep track of their collection, Doctor Who Action Figures Online produced the very first wave by wave reference guide. While the checklists were basic, the guide was received exceptionally well by the users of the popular Doctor Who web community, Outpost Gallifrey's Toys and Merchandise forum (now The Doctor Who Forum / Gallifrey Base).
THE LAUNCH OF A FULLY DEDICATED WEBSITE
Always looking to improve the level of service to collectors, Doctor Who Action Figures Online contacted Character Options regarding permission to use images of the Character Options Doctor Who range on a fully dedicated website to the Doctor Who action figure range. It was with the great help and support of Character Options that the site was approved and permission was granted by Character Options and BBC Worldwide.
In October 2007, the site launched an improved service, complete with brand new checklists and even more information. It was also at this stage that Doctor Who Action Figures Online took the decision to make known our policy of only reporting on officially confirmed releases in order to build up a reputation of becoming a reliable and accurate source of information - completely free from rumours and speculation.
ALWAYS IMPROVING
Doctor Who Action Figures Online has always looked for ways to improve the site. In February 2008, the website was completely re-launched with easy navigation making it easier than ever for visitors to quickly find the information they require. It featured a range of brand new pages, including a Frequently Asked Questions page, news page, e-newsletter and most importantly our improved series by series, wave by wave checklists. Pleasingly, our re-launch was met with a extremely positive response.
In March 2008, we continued to add even more to the site. as we choose to launch the ‘Doctor Who Figure Of The Month’ scheme where we allow our visitors to rate our chosen Character Option Doctor Who action figure of the month. July saw us publish our first feature article focusing on Toys R US while in August 2008 we launched the first ever Doctor Who printable action figure checklist - ‘The Ultimate Checklist’ (now known as ‘The Story So Far‘). September 2008 saw Doctor Who Action Figures Online move in a completely new direction by helping the fellow collector even more by launching a Tutorials database, helping collectors, get the most from their action figures. This mixed in with a number of competitions made 2008 a very successful year.
2009 saw the continued improvement of Doctor Who Action Figures Online. Keeping up with current trends, we launched an information service on Facebook and Twitter and introduced the ‘Doctor Who Action Figures Online Player’ showcasing Character Options Doctor Who television advertisements.
THE PRESENT & FUTURE
Early 2010 saw Doctor Who Action Figures Online re-brand ready for the Matt Smith era... For the site, a brand new colour scheme and logo was introduced. Modifications were also made to the ‘Figure Of The Month’ scheme making it easier for visitors to participate and to our ‘Figure Guides’ in preparation for Series 5 later in the year.
Always aiming to keep our visitors up to date with the latest news, August 2010 saw Doctor Who Action Figures Online re-launch with a completely brand new look.
For the remainder of 2010 and beyond, Doctor Who Action Figures Online aims to maintain its position as a reliable and top quality site, building upon its well known reputation for reporting the facts without the rumours.
